Ok, so it’s new a year, new beginnings, blah, blah, blah. Well i see it as a new year and new challenges! This year, I have set myself 25 things to do before the year is up! Ok, it’s not many but I think some of them may be quite hard.
Matt’s 25 Tasks For 2006
- Shake a celebrities hand (The more famous the more points!)
- Get my name in a newspaper (preferably national)
- Win on the lottery (added bonus if I can do it without buying a ticket!)
Try sushi (real sushi, not M&S sexed up bland rubber fish)COMPLETED!!- DJ in a club (Haven’t done that properly in a while)
- Learn to play an instrument (can restart the Cello cos I still remember it)
- Learn a new language and speak it in it’s country of origin (French and German not allowed)
- Have a poo on an aeroplane (a lower class form of the Mile High Club)
- Chat a stranger on the bus/train/plane (bonus points if I collect a phone number/email address or home address)
- Go skinny dipping (must not get arrested)
- Put the silent ‘P’ into swimming pool (bonus points for blaming it on an incontinent elderly person)
- Break the law in a novel way! (Ooo… i am feeling naughty! Must also avoid arrest)
- Do an eskimo roll in a kayak (last attempt was 2 years ago in Devon. Almost drowned)
- Text, email or call at least one person a day
- Be Barry Lovechild for a night (Live the dream!)
Get a tattoo (i hope it doesn’t hurt)- Get fat!!! (I’ve been skinny for 21 years)
Make a mix CD without any cheesey songs on it (This is the easy one, so at least I’ll have a chance of completing something on this list!)COMPLETED!!Get a 1st in my degree (best start revising for that one!)- Have an operation (Preferably nothing to serious. Also, can not be from self-inflicted injuries just to cross this off the list)
- Go on a blind date (I’ve never had one! Anyone wanna help with this one let me know. Best done whilst I’m single)
Wear pink for a day (I’m umm-ing and ahh-ing over whether a pink shirt counts. Bonus marks if hit on by a gay guy whilst wearing it. Extra bonus mark if hit on by a girl whilst wearing it)- Score a goal in a football match (Must be at least 5-a-side)
- Go on TV (Bonus marks if any of the above are completed whilst on TV)
- Make someone cry with joy! (Finish on a happy note!)
I’ve also come up with a few rules for myself to give myself a useful way to reflect on the event (what a load of crap). Here are the initial rules:
- The game starts at 00:00 1st January 2006. Any tasks completed before then are counted as practices.
- Once midnight strikes on 31 December 2006, the game is up (and I may start a new one if I had enough fun!)
- I shall keep my blog updated of all completed tasks.
- Completed tasks must have proof, e.g. photo’s, written witness statements, video footage.
- I shall also be giving myself a score out of 10 for how I well I feel I succeeded in the task at hand.
- Any task can be completed more than once.
- Combined tasks have their score combined and multiplied by the number of tasks. For example, if I were to do number 1, 8 and 24 at the same time (have a poo on a plane whilst shaking Judy Finnigans hand on TV) I would get:
- 3 x sum of points for success of each operation
If anyone else wants to have a go aswell it would be interesting to see how you do! So let me know!!! This message will self destruct in *boom*

[...] Challenge Complete UPDATE: I uploaded the wrong version initially, so if it sounds dodgy, thats why. This is the correct version!Ok, here it is! The first mix of 2006 done mainly so I can cross off one of my challenges for this year. I’m really chuffed with this mix. It’s a mixture of hip hop, jazz, drum & bass, electro. It’s kinda scruff like i suppose. I recommend it for revising too (well i’ve been revising to it, it’s a nice kinda backgroundy mix). I tried to do a few special bits in it (overlapping songs, eg. scruff & DJ Vadim, dropping samples in, destiny’s child over shadow). I’m pretty sure none of the tracks class as cheese so i would say that means I can cross challenge number18 off my list, unless anyone beg’s to differ? Listen here (mp3, 40Mb) [...]
[...] Well, I’ve just got back from London having completed another of my challenges with the aid of Amy (cheers chuck!!). I feel pretty pleased that I’ve actually done two of them now! It doesn’t feel like some pointless wishlist that I came up with in a moment of boredom, but it has become meaningful list of life-fulling challenges (yeah, whatever!). [...]
[...] Sorry, I digress. At the end of the meal, instead of recieving the bill and plate full of mint imperials (probably plucked out from peoples coat pockets), we recieved the bill and… a red envelope. “Exciting!” I hear you say. Well, no, but what was inside the envelope is what freaked me out a little (tho the significance of the contents only occured to me a few hours later whilst on the phone). Inside this red envelope was… a ticket! A National Lottery Ticket!! For this wednesday’s draw!!! You’re probably think, “Lucky you! But what’s with the destiny/fate stuff?”. Well, one of my 25 challenges for this year is to win on the lottery without buying a ticket! I have to admit when I came up with that particular challenge I was thinking I’d have to bribe people to buy me tickets, but I never expected to actually get a ticket like this! I’m so excited and slightly freaked out by this coincidence. I know the picture is a bit crap, but the numbers are 4, 14, 20, 38, 39, 45. Even if we win a tenner I’d be over the moon and consider that challenge done! I’ll keep you posted on wednesday! [...]
[...] Oh yeah!!! 90% baby!!! Put that on your hot cross bun and eat it! Anyway, I also saw my supervisor today so she can update on how well I’m doing overall. Turns out if I can’t be arsed to do any work this semester and get 0% in everything I’d end up with 57% (not bad for a slacker). However, if I want to get a 1st I have to get (wait for this, its fantastic)… I have to get a mere 57% in the rest of modules!! How great is that!! Looks like I’ll be completing another of my 25 challenges this year! [...]
