Party Time Vol 1 – Musical Statues

Hallo peeps!!! Another special post containing the very first Party Time mix! I have handed around 50 copies of this mix in total and most people really enjoyed! When I started making it, my main aim was to incorporate Christian Hip Hop with a mixture of Cheese and other randomness. It was mainly influenced by DJ Yoda and his eighties mix tape which I had recently acquired for Christmas. The main novelty bit of it is the fact you can actually play Musical Statues along to it! Honestly!!! It would often describe it to people, saying “It’s a mixture of 80′s cheese, classic 90′s hip hop, christian hip hop all mashed in to a mad game of Musical Statues” and they’d just look at me and say “Musical Statues?”. All I say is listen and believe!!!Find it here: http://www.mattgoldspink.co.uk/downloads/partytimevol1.wma Check out the cheesey cover I made for it too!!!

My past birthday week Part 1

First huge thanks to everyone who came to the party the other week! It was a top night! HUGE thanks goes to Ke & Guo who first took me out for a proper Chinese afternoon tea (involving chicken claws, baby octopus and many other delicious dim sum!), and then bought me a wicked birthday cake (Ke thank you for smothering it all over my face!)

Also, huge thanks to Will (famous for creating the New Woman website), Hannah, and Rick for coming all the way up for it from various parts of the country. I really appreciated you guys making the trip.

Big up to DJ Derek whose music set up a top atmosphere, and another Tekno-Funk thanks to Tim, who gave me a mini break from DJing with some WKD drum & bass.

The night was ace, I shall be putting up some excerpts from the set me & derek did online when I get back to uni, until then, I shall just say the musical highlight of the night was a very controversial version of S Club Party!!! Split the crowd.

shitmat

I have one word to describe last night. It is “Shitmat”, the aptly named DJ who ruined it.
I don’t know if he classes himself as DJ, musician, mentalist or what, but in my books he’s divvy!! Don’t get me wrong, the guy has talent! He has some amazing ability to take music to another level. A level which no one has tried to reach before (because it’s crap!!). I would like to formally apologise to everyone who joined me for the first time, It is honestly usually wicked!!!
The first guys who were on were ace (Monster, Monster!)!!! Everyone was boogying!! Then something happened, the music stopped, a hurl of swear words resounded over the PA, some noise came on then disappeared, more swear words, then noise again, then more swear words (Dave cleverly left at this point, why did I not think of that!).
I can only compare the music to a combination of drum & bass (without the bass, so jus ‘drum’ really), over the top of some novelty 20p records found in Oxfam (eg. captain Pugwash and the blue peter theme) all played really fast (just hit the 45rpm button on the decks), with random bursts of swearing from him inbetween while he tried to cue up the next track.
I think my favourite moment of the night was when I thought he shouted “Does anyone like Abba?”, it was only when I looked at Matt (not me, tho that would be really surreal) and pointed out to me that the guy shouted “Does anyone like gabba?”. I have no idea what that is, but depressingly it is nothing like Abba.

For those curious about what this mad man played, try these links to some of his tracks (I haven’t heard them, I hope they’re as bad as what he played though):

I also found a link to a set he did,
Shitmat Live @ The Freebutt 27-05-03 – laptop, mic, kaoss pad, deck’n'mixer and a few too many cans of beer

I would love to hear other peoples views on this guy.

PS: for more information in this so called “gabba” see Wikipedia’s entry here (hehe! gabba is derived from a yiddish word! Surely the Jews did not spawn this evil!)

PPS: I apologise for the language in this post. It’s his name and I’m not afraid to use it
